“City Tavern is in the neighborhood of Cow Hollow, just below Union Street and right off of Lombard on Highway 101 N. It has ambient sophistication reminiscent of the 1940's, with an upscale, young clientele. This is a favorite spot for singles from about 21 to 35. A comfortable atmosphere for lunch, with some sidewalk dining. Featuring a menu of California cuisine, light fare as well, a perfect 32 degrees, extensive selection of beer, and a good California wine list make it a popular spot.”

“City Tavern Has a Ton of Deals: Veteran cheapskates have long been familiar with the siren charms of City Tavern, seemingly the only place in the Marina devoted to the health of our wallets. Having realized that many of our readers are not acquainted with their deals, it bears repeating: on Tuesdays, this place is a rightful zoo, with $2 beers of all kinds, and numerous $2 foods (burgers, pizza, chicken wings, salad). Thursdays are slightly pricier, with $3 buying a well drink or one of a more upscale selection of dishes (quesadillas, calamari, spring rolls). And on Saturday, your first mimosa is free with brunch. Whew.”

“City Tavern should be bookmarked in every cheapskate’s day planner as the best deal in the Marina. For a dozen dollars, you can eat, eat and drink.”

“City Tavern looks more like a thoroughly modern restaurant than a tavern — sleek and restrained in design, with an arc of wood tables in the center of the spacious room and an oval wooden bar at the broad front windows. Only the clubby booths along one wall and the vintage sports photographs suggest the hail-fellow-well-met attitude that one expects of a tavern.”
